Well the Turkey leftovers are almost gone and many of us have either worn out our shopping shoes or clicking finger, so the Christmas gift-giving season can officially begin. I like to give sweet simple gifts throughout season to help the joy last all month. Russian Tea is one of my favorite ones to make and give, not to mention consume copious amounts myself! And since not everyone is familiar with the term Russian Tea, I call mine Holly Jolly Tea.
Holly Jolly Tea – Simple to Make
The hardest part about this gift is finding the Tang drink mix. I did find a large container at Walmart (enough to make 22 quarts), but you can find smaller sizes on Amazon: Tang Orange Powdered Drink Mix – 6 qt
You’ll also need instant tea – I used the kind with lemon.
The only other ingredients are ground cinnamon, ground cloves and sugar.
There are several different recipes on Pinterest and there is sure to be one in any church lady cookbook you have at home (Don’t you just love those cookbooks?). I tweaked it a little and came up with the combination below:
1 ½ cup Tang
½ cup instant tea
½ cup sugar
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
Simply dump everything in a gallon size freezer bag and shake until well mixed. I found it easier to insert my bag into a pitcher to keep it upright while adding the ingredients.
Then you simply add 2 or more teaspoons to a cup of hot water and stir. I like mine very strong so sometimes I go as high as 3-4 teaspoons per mug of water. It is totally your preference.

The mix was packaged in 8 oz ball jars with these cute little gingham tops made by Better Homes and Gardens, and just added a quick ribbon and tag. Feel free to download the printable tags here.
You can embellish these jars in hundreds of ways, or you could always add to a clear cellophane bag. I would love to see how you packages yours.
Simple to Enjoy
Because I bought such large canisters of Tang and tea, my family will have plenty of this seasonal staple to enjoy for quite a while. I usually make it a rule to chew my calories, not drink them, but this delicious Holly Jolly Russian Tea is definitely an exception.
Hope you enjoy some soon!
