Are your little ones excited to go back and start a new school year, or are they dragging their feet a little? Either way, sending them off with a special yet simple back to School Breakfast or Dinner Table (if that works better for your family) can help them get a jump start on the year.
In the Jones home, we typically do a festive yet easy to put together breakfast with a school supply-laden tablescape and one or two special food items. You could certainly go all out for breakfast, or offer a Back to School Eve dinner the night before or even the first night of school if the mornings are too hectic for your family. Or you could host a small get together for your playgroup, neighborhood kids or the kids you know will be in your child’s class. As with everything here at Behind the Scenes Belle, the whole point is to show love by putting in just a little extra time and effort.
Our Back to School Breakfast
I used what I had a at home (including a 20 year old tablecloth and a runner made from curtain valances) and some of the girls school supplies that I had to purchase anyway. It’s nowhere near as elaborate as some of the amazing ones I will share below, but it did allow me to add a little special touch with no cost and very little time. See the Facbook Live video here.
Other Back to School Breakfast or Dinner Table Ideas
Pinterest has no shortage of amazing table ideas, and most utilize many items you have likely have at home or have purchased from your child’s school supply list.
Dixie Delights never disappoints with her Back to School tables. She keeps the breakfast table simple with the Happy Everything Back to School Plate, a few books, her kids’ names spelled out on colorful magnetic letters, but those custom pancakes with names and grades steal the show.
I love the simplicity of this centerpiece from Kami Buchanan Custom Designs and have had it pinned for years.
It would perfect on its own, but if you pan out a little, you can see that it is part of a larger display of even more school staples. It’s totally practical and everything can be used throughout the year.
The black gingham and bold red apple create a simple backdrop for the adorable colorful snacks Party Pinching created for this back to school party.
The Crafting Chicks‘ apple-themed table with custom apple plates is bold and bright, and sure to get your kids energized for that first day.
Switching gears a little, Life is a Party showcases a more sophisticated take on a back to School table featuring globes of various sizes and a table runner made of pages from a dictionary found at a thrift store. This would be perfect for teens or even a college send-off.
Or Keep it Simple with a Back to School Banner
Maybe instead of going all out for one meal, you want to add a decor element to your home that you can keep up for a while. My kitchen table sits in front of a large window so I am always looking for a neat garland or banner to staring across for different occasions.
Check out this flash card and pompom apple garland from Certified Celebrator. Isn’t that ruler ribbon adorable?
Here’s another flash card banner, but the colorful cards and clothespins give it a completely different look. Didn’t Bug and Brookie so a great job on this sweet kids’ table?
Could this notebook paper banner from Paging Super Mom be any easier?
