Hey y’all! I’m a southern, working, midlife mama who whole-heartedly believes that showing true hospitality is a joy, and that people and life deserve to be celebrated.
I have been accused on more than one occasion of having a tendency to go a little over the top. Actually had a good friend tell me recently, “Wendy, it doesn’t matter what it is, work, family, project, event – you just go over the top, full force into everything you do.” And I have to be honest, at first I wasn’t sure how to take it, but the more I thought about it – the more I agreed. Yes I do tend to go a “little” over the top sometimes, but that’s where I find my joy – that’s what I am passionate about – and that’s what makes me imperfectly me.
I love adding a little some extra, the lagniappe (one of my favorite words although I have never been able to pronounce it), to things when I can. Or as a great colleague once said – adding the “surprise and delight.” That little something extra doesn’t have to cost a lot of time or money – usually it’s just the result of a little more thought or a tiny bit more effort. It’s a little something to show others that you thought about them, and in this world of quick, fast and in a hurry, knowing someone took a little extra time and put a little extra love into something for you is such a rare and awesome feeling.
I am a planner and a doer, and although I do not have a shy bone in body, I am much more comfortable behind the scenes. For me, that’s where the magic happens – where the crazy ideas and what ifs work themselves into practical realities. So won’t you come join me behind the scenes to add a little “over the top” to the ordinary?
Stay humble, work hard, be kind.
